The Loango National Park Safari Circuit
The Loango National Park is situated approximately 800 km (500 miles) south of Libreville. This 7 nights safari shows you much of Gabon en route to and from the Park. Accommodation is in a mobile tented camp, except for Lambarene where you stay in the famous Albert Schweitzer Hospital building.
The tour is normally accompanied by Patrick Ogandaga who has lived and worked in the Iguela area of the Loango National Park for more than ten years. Patrick eats, lives and breathes for the mammals, birds and plants of the area!
Day 01
Morning departure from Libreville after breakfast and travel by road to Gabon’s Lake District of Lambarene and the Albert Schweitzer Hospital, which attracts doctors and scientists from all over the World wanting to see where the great man worked his way to the Nobel Prize. Stay in comfortable rooms which previously accommodated the original staff of the hospital.
Day 02
In the morning there will be a boat trip on the lakes. Afternoon drive to Sindara Mission for overnight. Sindara is not only beautiful, but it is also one of the most historic sites in Gabon.
Day 03
Drive from Sindara to Omboue on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean
Day 04
In the morning visit by boat to the beautiful Sainte Anne Mission, which was designed and constructed by Gustav Eiffel of Paris Eiffel Tower fame. Continue to the coastal lagoon of Iguela and the gateway to the Loango National Park.
Day 05
All day boat trip on the lagoon and the Akaka wetlands. With luck you should see hippos, buffalo, red river hogs, crocodiles and elephants on the beach and more game and birds in the wetlands.
Day 06
Enjoy the experience of awakening to the sounds of the forest and the rhythm of the Atlantic rollers. After breakfast depart by road through the seaside forests of the National Park for exploration by vehicle and on foot. Discover the ancient ritual cultures of the Bwiti and the Ndjembe tribes. Learn about the medicinal value of tropical plants while walking the forest trails. Track the large mammals of Western Africa. Develop new skills like learning to use a GPS and a compass to navigate in the depth of the forest. Encounter fishermen coming home at night after a long day out on the ocean. Witness the elephant going to the river for its morning bath. Be impressed by the smartness of the young villagers as they go off to school in their neat and pristine uniforms.
Day 07
Boat trip to Sainte Catherine’s Gap in the morning and continue to Omboue after lunch
Day 08

Please note dmAFRICA arrangements are normally based on individual quotations with services provided to suit each person’s individual requirements and taste. Departures from Libreville are normally on a Sunday or Wednesday.
