Paul Humphreys

Chairman & C.E.O.

Born in the north of England, Paul has a career spanning over 35 years in the luxury hotel and tourism industry.

After selling his family newspaper publishing and printing business, Paul owned and managed an award-winning country house hotel in the Scottish Highlands during the 1980's, as well as publishing numerous hotel guides. He has acted as consultant on many projects in the luxury hospitality sectors around the world.

He was the founder and first Chairman of the Travel Trust Association (TTA), the industry protection body in the U.K.

In the early 1990's Paul was a Director of a major Pan-African inbound tour operator, along with Alan Brown, developing tourism into East Africa, and the "New South Africa", before setting up his own holding company, dmEARTH Group of Companies in 1993, specialising in tourism to the newly emerging markets of Eastern Europe and the former USSR, where he had travelled extensively.

Recognising the need for a more client-driven DMC in Africa, Paul established dmAFRICA in 1997 with Daniel Brown, and in 2010 established dmASIA.

Paul has a love for international travel, has visited 106 countries and lived in 7 countries on 3 continents. He divides his time between homes in Thailand and Spain, and his offices in Africa and Asia.

Daniel Brown

Managing Director

Born in England, Daniel spent his formative years in Tanzania, where his love of Africa was nurtured. He then moved, with his family, to the Seychelles, where he spent a number of years.

Daniel completed his education back in England, graduating with a degree in Travel & Tourism Management. He went straight into a career in travel, quickly becoming the branch manager of a leading UK-wide retail chain for their prestigious Central London Office.

He returned to Africa, as operations manager for a large inbound operator based in Johannesburg, working alongside his father Alan, before establishing dmAFRICA with business partner Paul Humphreys in 1997.

A love of deep-sea fishing takes him off the coastline of Africa at every opportunity. Daniel is a keen follower of sports, especially rugby and soccer.

Daniel ilives with his wife and young son in London, and is based in the London Sales Office of dmAFRICA with frequent trips throughout the African continent.

Alan Brown

Director of Sales & Marketing

Born in England, Alan is an industry veteran of almost 50 years, with experience in tour operating, hotels and destination management. He has lived and worked in several countries in Africa, as well as the Seychelles, Fiji, Australia and the UK.

In 1964 he pioneered the first UK charter flight inclusive tour programme from the UK to East Africa, followed soon after by Sri Lanka. Alan is also credited with introducing the first “Weddings Abroad” programme when, in 1978, he offered the opportunity to wed in resort in the Seychelles and the Caribbean, an innovation which was quickly seized upon by tour operators worldwide.

Alan has a great passion for Africa and an intrinsic understanding of tour operations and the present day travellers’ needs in that region.

His travels have taken him to over 100 countries, covering all continents. Alan is a life-long supporter of Chelsea Football Club, and regularly attends their games.

Adriana Radeva

Operations Director - Johannesburg Office

Adriana was born in Bulgaria and studied in Italy where she concentrated on modern languages. She is fluent in Italian, English, Russian and Bulgarian. She joined Paul, Daniel and Manuela in 1996 and since that time has specialised in inbound tourism to Southern Africa.

She fully understands the requirements of her international clientele and is equally at home preparing an incentive tour for an Italian operator as she is in finding an island retreat for honeymooners from Israel, or from any other country.

Adriana has travelled extensively in Africa and is also an expert on the island of Mauritius

Manuela Clack

Operations Director - Cape Town Office

Manuela was born in Germany and raised in South Africa, where she completed her formal education by graduating with a BA Honours Degree. She entered tourism in 1992 and quickly became a specialist in inbound tourism to Southern Africa, working alongside Paul, Daniel and Adriana for most of that time.

She is fluent in English and German and has a clear understanding of the different demands and aspirations of various worldwide tour operators and their clients.

During 20 years, Manuela has gained widespread product knowledge throughout Southern Africa and has also added Mauritius, Seychelles and East Africa to the destinations she has experienced first hand.

Nicole Raffle

Southern Africa Operations

Nicole was born and raised in South Africa, where she completed her formal education by graduating with distinction in Travel & Tourism.

She has travelled extensively in South Africa, Botswana, Seychelles, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar and numerous private game parks within the Southern African borders.

Nicole worked for a Southern African luxury lodge management company before joining the team of dmAFRICA in 2011, and is now able to put her extensive product knowledge to good use in itinarary planning for our clients.

She is a keen sportswoman, having played netball, and rowing, as well as watching numerous team sports. She has a great interest in current affairs and keeping abreast with all that is happening in our world, politically, financially and socially.

Mike Varndell

Malawi Operations

Although born in Zimbabwe, Mike grew up in Malawi, so it is very much home for him. After graduating with a bachelor of Business Administration from the University of South Africa, Mike moved to London and spent six years living the "London dream". However, Africa was always in his heart and in 2009 he moved back to Malawi to set up his own tour company. He has never looked back.

Loving life and his work in Malawi, he has found a perfect balance and aims to share the many wonders of Malawi with the world. He relishes making the tours as special as they can be, continually expanding them to include all the best spots in Malawi and the surrounding areas.

The thing he enjoys most about his job? The rewarding feeling of helping people to have the time of their lives in Africa”

Kevin Record

Mozambique Operations

Kevin was born in South Africa. He got sidetracked into tourism after a 1993 Trans Africa that drove from London to Cape Town. Mozambique was his favourite country in the 22 that he visited on that trip - and he hasn’t looked back! An established tourism professional Kevin has spent the last 18 years in all aspects of the tourism industry throughout Southern Africa with an emphasis and passion on the destination of Mozambique.

Fluent in Portuguese, and proficient in local Northern Mozambican language Kimwani, Kevin is a qualified PADI dive master and has over 200 dives in Mozambique – most of them in the remote northern region of the Quirimbas Archipelago. When he is not in the office he is usually found travelling in Mozambique, sailing dhows and pioneering new routes and circuits.

Ryan Dhana

Zimbabwe Operations

Ryan was born and raised in Zimbabwe and has over twenty years of experience in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Ryan lives in the scenic village of Victoria Falls, which is fast becoming the adventure capital of Southern Africa.

Paul Wesson

Angola Operations

Paul Wesson, a British national, studied Business at Southampton, then latterly an MBA with the Open University in 1995. Interests include, motor sport (including competing in motorcycle trials and rallies), 4x4 over landing, wildlife conservation and sailing.

He arrived in Luanda, Angola in March 1982, to assist in managing the Land Rover importer and distributor. Despite the fact that Angola was in fact at war finding an immediate empathy with Angola and its people, beauty and potential, Paul had no hesitation in accepting. The distributorship was sold in 2001 and after “handing over” for a year, Paul was offered the position of Commercial Director within one of the largest and diverse Angolan companies (activities including hotels, automotive, agriculture, telecom, power generation and construction among others).

In 2004 with a similarly minded Angola friend Paul set up his own tour company, now a part of the dmAFRICA network.

Paul has over 30 years of Angolan experience and a small, dedicated and flexible team ready to accommodate customers needs in this challenging market.

Nilima Chandran

Kenya Operations

Born and raised in Kenya, Nilima received a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Nairobi. She has been working in the tourism industry since 1984 gaining experience in operations, sales and product development, financial planning and management.

Popsy D’Souza-Getonga

Kenya Operations

Popsy was born and raised in Kenya, and educated in the U.K. and U.S.A., and holds a degree in Travel-Tourism Management & Marketing. With a strong passion for Africa Popsy has developed an in-depth knowledge of all areas of the continent. She moved back to Kenya in 1986 and has been working in inbound tourism ever since.

Hagai Zvulun

Tanzania Operations

Born in Ethiopia when his father was preparing for his PHD in Anthropology and has spent most of his life in Africa. He has completed his BFA in photography.


Hagai is a dedicated naturalist with a passion for birds and marine biology and he has worked as a safari guide and as a photographer in East, Southern and North Africa.

Ilan Kessel

Born in South Africa where he has spent much of his life. He is a seasoned traveller who has visited many parts of the World. In Africa, he has great experience as a safari guide and he has also undertaken the safari management of some of the World’s most prestigious incentive groups.
Ilan's knowledge of the African continent is exemplified by his graduation with a BA in Africa Studies.

Anne-Marie Weeden

Uganda & Rwanda Operations

Anne-Marie first encountered Africa when driving overland from London to the Gambia in a battered old Citroen. Since then she has visited a variety of African countries but she remains most passionate about East Africa, and has made Uganda her home for the past five years.

She joined the dmAFRICA team in 2011 and is responsible for overseeing all sales and marketing activities for Uganda and Rwanda. Her favourite part of the job? Enjoying the rare privilege of ‘behind-the-scenes’ encounters with some of the area’s beautiful wildlife – like the time she joined a veterinary team to dart a rhino with an eye infection.

Alberto Tenere & Robeto Cerea

Benin, Burkina Faso, Equitorial Guinea,Ghana & Togo Operations



Alberto Nicheli is Italian and has been living in Togo since 1985. However, he organized his first trans-Saharan expedition in 1972. Alberto has a real sense of adventure and a true “nomadic spirit". Every year he devises new itineraries based upon his own exploratory travels in the region. He has a profound knowledge and understanding of African art and of the many traditions and customs of the people who inhabit these remote territories.

Alberto has been responsible for the organization in the field research for the photo-ethnographic book "African Ceremonies" by Angela Fisher and Carol Backwith, as well as for related material for National Geographic; he also managed the travel logistics and arrangements for a Discovery Channel film crew making a movie-documentary on the salt caravans of the Sahara. Alberto also worked on archeological and ethnological expeditions to investigate customs and traditions of the Tuareg people and the pre-historic rock art in the Sahara. He has also organized several 'first-time' explorations between Taoudenni-Oualata and Taoudenni-Chinguetti in Mali and Mauritania.

Leslie Nevison

Gabon Operations


Always a committed traveler, Leslie and her husband of 30 years first went overseas to live in 1990. They have since called ten countries home, including Tanzania, Zambia, the Republic of Congo and Gabon.

Although Leslie leads a few safaris herself every year usually her clients travel on their own, in the excellent hands of her team of guides on the ground.Leslie's clients become her good friends, many of whom return to Africa to travel with her again.

Kenneth was born in Sierra Leone married with two children.After primary and secondary education in Sierra Leone he graduated from University in Dakar- Senegal.

Assou Sagara

Mali Operations

Assou Sagara was born in Yawa (Mali’s Dogon country), in the Bandiagara region of central Mali.

He attended Secondary school in Sevare, Mopti; then University of Bamako; graduating 1988 with degree in Management/Accounting.

Assou has been a Licensed Guide since 1993 (although he worked as a guide for many years prior to that). He ha been involved in tourism all of his adult life; tourism is his passion - he truly loves meeting visitors and showing them his beautiful country of Mali.
