When the conservators of The Malilangwe Trust searched for a site for a true six-star hotel, they were drawn to this rocky promontory overlooking the gorge of the Nyamasikana River in the same way that the Changana and the San Bushmen had gathered on this very hilltop on sacred days to honor the spirits of their people. They named it Pamushana – “A Place in the Sun”
The lodge, Pamushana has been described as the most stunning in Africa. Superlatives can be misleading but how else can you describe the lodge, which must rate as one of the very best - if not the best - on the African continent? It is certainly the finest in Zimbabwe. The six villas are magnificent, each with its own pool set in a wooden deck from which there are stunning views. Complete with a lounge, guest toilet in a conical tower reminiscent of that at Great Zimbabwe, a bathroom with bath and inside and outside showers, the décor is in a word - opulent. Huge picture windows bring the pristine surrounding bush almost right into each villa. All the villas are fully air-conditioned and have ceiling fans. You enter the Lodge through mosaic tiled pillars facing a 'reflection pool' of shimmering water with a backdrop of mountains and the sky beyond. There is a fully equipped gymnasium, sauna, library and a shop full of unusual gifts.
Perched on top of an escarpment, with spectacular panoramic views is an opulent, luxurious and unrivalled celebration of the glory of the African bush – Pamushana – clearly one of the most exquisite safari lodges in Africa. Each of it’s seven villas are spacious to the extreme, built with intricate hand-hewn stone work, exotic works of art and richly textured materials collected from all over Africa. Walls of sliding glass lead out from your bedroom onto a teak game VIP/HONEYMOON SUITE: All villas are the same. One villa has a very special view and this is used for honeymooners.
