Sierra Leone is more than beaches!
Leave after breakfast by road to one of Sierra Leone’s principal Wildlife Reserves. Passing through farmlands and village life en route, you arrive at our tented camp, which is set up on the banks of the Moa River in the Tiwai Island Wildlife Reserve.
The Reserve is independently run and well-managed by two local tribes as a conservation and ecological concern. It is 60km inland and about five hours from Freetown. It covers about 12 square km. and is located on the largest of Sierra Leone’s inland islands.
It has one of the highest concentrations of primates (11 species) in the World and abundant birdlife, with 135 recorded species.
You should also see the rare and nocturnal pigmy hippo and otters and river turtles.
After a rest following the long journey, there will be a late afternoon boat trip followed by a walk to the nearby Mende Tribal village. The Mende are the largest ethnic group in Sierra Leone.
Dinner will be buffet style.
Wake up with birds the following morning and embark on a forest walk and return to the camp for lunch.
